Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa

Stellenbosch was discovered in the late 1600's by a gentleman named Simon van der Stel. After leaving Cape Town on an expedition into the midlands looking for suitable farming areas, he came across this area and decided to name it after himself. Stellenbosch forms part of our wine tours from Cape Town.

One can still see the old Dutch architecture in the buildings, hotels and farmhouses throughout Stellenbosch. Today it is home to thousands of students forming part of the world renowned Stellenbosch university. Stellenbosch is the part of our Cape Town wine tours where we can set out on foot and possibly have lunch.

The Dutch were very good in engineering and they constructed little canals from The Eersteriver to bring fresh water to the local mill. After their arrival in Cape Town, their skills proved to work well as Stellenbosch grew rapidly.
