The Orange Rivier Wine area was developed in 1965, with the Upington Regions producing grapes from 1968.
As from 1970, the wine producing skills have been becoming larger with farms being built at Groblershoop and Keimoes.
The making of Grape juice is managed from a different, special facility at Kanoneiland, and is also done at the winery of Groot Drink.

Many of the wine fanatics enjoy embarking on Garden Route Tours and mixing some wine tasting with the holiday highlights along The Garden Route.
