Hermanus is considered to be the Capital of the Whale Route. This town is traditionally a resort town and today, it's ever increasing numbers of migrating whales (June to November) let the people flock to this "Riviera of the South".

Our Whale Watching Tours follow the route along the apple-growing area of Elgin/Grabouw, after ascending Sir Lowry's Pass. On our return from Hermanus, we follow the spectacular coastline along False Bay.

The Southern Right Whale is the specific specie making it's way to South Africa shores from June to November. The climate, temperature of the water and tides provide these whales with the perfect breeding and mating environment.

If you're lucky, you might just be one of the few lucky whale watchers to stand a few feet away from one of these ocean beasts as they roll in the shallow waters.

You might also see a new born whale swimming next to it's mother as they take their time to show the little one the ropes.

The Southern Right Whale is a baleen whale, one of three species. Around 12,000 Southern Right Whales are spread throughout the southern part of the Southern Hemisphere.

The Southern Right Whale was described as Balaena australis, though later transferred to the genus Eubalaena. Later reclassified as a subspecies of the North Atlantic Right Whale E. glacialis, it is once again considered a separate species.

Furthermore it may one day be reclassified in its original genus as scientists see greater differences between the three Balaenoptera species than between the Bowhead Whale, the only member of the original genus Balaena, and the other three right whales. It therefore seems likely that all four species will be placed in one genus in a future review.
