Garden Route, The origin of the name

The name of the Garden Route can quite often be a bit of a problem as some people might get a complete wrong idea of what the garden Route and a Garden Route tour really is.

Some clients have told me outright that they do not want to go on a tour to see gardens. So some customers believe that the name implies that we are going to look at cultivated Gardens in the backyard of some private individual land owners. This is so far from the truth.

The name “ Garden Route and Garden Route Tours “ was chosen as a marketing term to market this very special part of South Africa . This area is completely natural . It’s a region of roughly 350 kilometres long with great natural beauty, where nature has lavishly imparted her bountiful treasures.

This has created a paradise of evergreen forests, plenty of lakes , golden beaches and a big array of unbelievable fauna and flaura. The Mountain Ranges has created a area with plenty of rain to make these true rainforests.

The big number of inland lakes with the Indian Ocean in the south also makes the Garden Route a perfect habitat for a number of bird species , thus making the Garden Route a perfect paradise for birdwatchers on Garden Route Tours.

Come join us on one of our many Garden Route tours where we can show you the beauty of this region.
