Boulder's Beach Penguins

A true highlight of our Cape Point Tours! This stop is sometimes used as a lunch break, depending on the time we return from Cape Point.

Boulders Beach is a beach with hundreds of huge granite boulders. It's found along the Cape Peninsula near Cape Point. Locals sometimes informally refer to it as Boulders Bay and our tours stop here for a look at this endangered species.

It is a well known attraction during Cape Point tours due to a unique colony of penguins who arrived here in the early 1980's. Boulders Beach is part of The Nature Reserve specifically to make sure these penguins are taken care of. A true highlight of Cape Point tours!

Of only two penguins arriving, there are now more than 3000 penguins within the colony. The area provides them with the perfect natural habitat and food found in the ocean and the tours provide the funds to continue protecting them.

Boulder's Beach is also a well known swimming area, even though human interaction is restricted to certain beaches.

The penguins can be closely viewed from a walkway which has been built to make sure unwanted human interaction do not frighten them. Here they can be seen soaking up the sun, playing in the water and even in their nests as they breed.

Boulder's Beach and The penguin colony is the final official stop we make on our Cape Point Tours. From here we head to Muizenberg and take Boyes Drive back to Cape Town.
