Cape Point Tours, The mountains of Cape Town

Cape Point tours take you around dramatic mountainous areas surrounding the city of Cape Town. Table Mountain is the most popular and easily identifiable by it’s flat top, with The Twelve Apostles, Devils Peak, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill flowing out of it. It is said that the great Gondwana Continent of millions of years ago created the mountains we see around Cape Town and Cape Point today.

Table Mountain welcomes thousands of visitors every year and a modern, quick cable car tour takes you to the top where a birds eye view of the surrounding mountains and Cape Town can be enjoyed. Make sure to have a lookout for the sunset specials when you are in Cape Town. For half price you can buy cable car tours during the off peak seasons. This is a very pleasant way to end the day as we return to the city after our Cape Point Tours.

Table Mountain stretches just over one kilometre into the air at its highest point. Maclears beacon is measured here at 1085 meters. The view from the top is virtually 360' and stretches to Cape Point in the South. Table Mountain today is one of the new seven wonders of the world and Cape Town is visited by hundreds of visitors every year. During peak times in December and January it is best to go very early or later in the afternoon as waiting lines may be very long for the Cable Car tours.

Cape Point and Lion’s Head have very popular hiking trails and many walking tours are available for those wishing to get the blood flowing. Views of Table Mountain, The Twelve Apostles mountains, Camps Bay and Clifton can be enjoyed from here. Walking tours is best to start early in the morning as the Cape Town and Cape Point winds might bother you after lunch time. On days where the weather is good, be sure to enjoy a true Cape Town sunset from Lions Head or make your way up to Signal Hill with the Cape Town hop on hop off bus tours.

Every day in Cape Town, apart from Sundays and public Holidays you will hear a cannon shot being fired from Signal Hill. This is in tradition to the signal fired from there in earlier years when the people of Cape Town were notified of uncoming ships and trading possibilities. Make a mental note to turn your head to Signal hill a few minutes before 12 o clock to witness the shot and smoke cloud. You cannot hear or see it from Cape Point, only from within the city areas.
