Cape Point Tours, Camps Bay

Camps Bay is the most popular beach in Cape Town and home to many luxurious hotels and holiday apartments. We drive through Camps Bay on our Cape Point Tours for a quick photo stop of this area.

Oudekraal can be found next to Camps Bay. There is an entrance fee to be paid when entering this beach, and many tourists and families come here for a picnic or braai. Toilets and lawns make Oudekraal a very comfortable area to enjoy the seaside in a clean and quality environment.

In the late seventies two boats, The Antipolis and Romelia were towed around the Cape Point. Due to very windy and stormy weather, their lines broke and the ships became stuck on the rocky and sandy beaches. The Antipolis met it's end near Oudekraal, and the Romelia near Llandudno. Remaining pieces of the Antipolis can still be seen during low tide and shipwreck tours are available during private Cape Point tours to view some remaining wrecks.

Bakoven is also a popular beach stop of Cape Town and found in the area near Camps Bay as one drives towards Cape Point. It's name means 'Baking Oven' and it's been called this way due to a specific rock formation which looks like an oven door.

Camps Bay Beach has received awards in the past for it's sandy beaches and pristine quality. Seasonal rescue teams are on duty and public toilets can be found for use on the beach. During the Cape Town summers Camps Bay beach is packed with thousands of holidaymakers. There are hundreds of coffee shops and restaurants lining the beachfront in the main road. Beach chairs and umbrellas are also available for rental during certain seasons..

Camps Bay is without a doubt the playground for the rich and famous in Cape Town. Celebrities and popular faces can often be seen soaking up the sun or enjoying a cocktail in one of the many bars. We do a quick drive through Camps Bay en route to Cape Point during our tours of the Cape Peninsula.
